Membership Management on Morweb – Clearing Site Credit Histories

As the last PALISI meeting in academic year 2025 has now come to a close, and the year itself only has a few more months in it, we are currently in planning for the start of AY2026. At that time each site’s history in Morweb will be cleared, and all site credits will be reset to zero for the new year AY26. We will, of course, retain all records for prior years even though they will no longer be visible on Morweb. Although the newly purchased credits won’t be able to be used until the September meeting, we will open the ability to purchase AY2026 site credits as of June 1, 2025. This way, those of you with available department/division funds from AY2025 can spend them on credits for AY2026.

If you have any questions about PALISI financial processes, please don’t hesitate to email admin@palisi.org. We will still be in touch about prior unpaid invoices from AY2025, so please do your best to help us get those paid as soon as possible.

PALISI Social Media Expansion – Join the Team

PALISI is now on both Bluesky and X. We are seeking a few PALISI members to assist in managing these accounts. If you are interested, please contact Ann-Marie Brown at ann-marie.brown@emory.edu

PEDAL Off Cycle Meeting June 17

SAVE THE DATE! Please join the Pediatric Data Science and Analytics (PEDAL) subgroup for our summer off-cycle meeting on bias in machine learning and artificial intelligence in pediatrics: Tuesday, June 17th 10-11:30am Central. A panel of experts, including data scientists and ethicists, will join us to discuss the risk of bias (and what we can do to mitigate it!) in this field. If you would like a calendar invite, please reach out to PEDAL Chair Julia Heneghan at heneg013@umn.edu or palisipedal@gmail.com.

Save the Dates – Fall 2025 and Fall 2026 PALISI meetings (Spring 2026 coming soon!)

The PALISI Executive Committee and Venues Subcommittee have been working hard to plan our biannual meetings farther ahead to facilitate your schedules. The Fall 2025 meeting will be hosted in Montreal, Canada at the Omni Hotel Mont Royal September 8-11, 2025. The Fall 2026 meeting will be held in Minneapolis, MN at The Marquette Minneapolis September 9-12, 2026.

We are working to finalize the Spring 2026 meeting and will post as soon as confirmed.

Fall 2025 Clinical Research Course – Save the Date!

Attention senior fellows, junior faculty and novice researchers - are you interested in developing your research skills from leading scientists in the field of pediatric critical care? Join us for PALISI’s Clinical Research Course on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 8:00am - 5:30pm. This one-day intensive workshop is designed to expose junior investigators to key components of a research career and build connections in the PALISI community. Topics will include building connections, developing your research program, cultivating collaborations, reviewing specific aims, discussing strategies for your professional success, and more!

This year participants will register for one of two tracks. You will be asked to choose your track upon registration, and you will spend roughly half of the day within your track.

  • Collaborative Clinician-Researcher - for those interested in roles such as collaborative investigator or site PI with a local clinical research or quality improvement scholarly focus.

  • Independent Clinician-Scientist* - for those aiming to lead independently funded research programs.

*If you register for the Independent Clinician-Scientist track, you must submit a Specific Aims page for review during the Specific Aims Workshop. If you are interested but do not feel prepared to submit this sample work, please don't hesitate to reach out to the course directors for guidance. Specific Aims will be requested in advance of the meeting and all late registrants will be placed in the Collaborative Clinician-Researcher track.

Please note that repeat course participation is encouraged, especially if you've participated in the past and now have better defined specific aims that you would like to review!

Please save the date - registration will open soon! See you in Montreal!

Clinical Research Course Fall 2025 Speakers Survey

We are working on putting together PALISI's Clinical Research Course (CRC) for the Fall 2025 conference and we need your help!

We are looking for PALISI members with experience to share with the next generation of pediatric critical care scholars, including independent physician-scientists and collaborative clinician-researchers. If this is you, we would love for you to participate as faculty in the course.

If you are interested, please complete the survey (link below) by June 1, 2025.

Thank you very much and we hope to see you in Montreal!

Foundation Funding Opportunities

The Pathways to Independence SIG held a discussion on foundation funding at the PALISI meeting in Santa Fe, NM on April 1st. Here is their summary – thank you to this team, led by Erin Carlton, Anoop Bhalla, and Liz Killian for completing this work and requesting we share with our membership!

General Points to Consider

  • Shorter timeline to complete and require specific deliverables required for these types of grants. Most want immediate clinical impact.

  • Can use for equipment or to fund gathering preliminary data for research program

  • Good opportunity to get peer review

  • Need to write these differently, discuss with your foundation liaison at your institution.  Sell the story of your research.

  • Needs to be supported by division chief.  Often limited/no indirects and salary support.

  • Overdeliver and they may seek you out for additional research

  • Develop a 1 page summary of research that can be handed out by your philanthropy department

    • With an associated 4-5 page document that goes into more details about each component of your research you need funded.

  • Partner with your foundations/philanthropy team

  • Look to your institution’s office of research/OVPR for external grant opportunities
