NIH Announces Simplified Review Framework for Research Project Grant Applications

Please see the link below for an overview of the new NIH Grant Review Framework. You may recall this we discussed during our mock study section event at the fall meeting. These changes are intended to address the complexities of the review process for investigators and reviewers alike. This new review framework goes into effect for grant deadlines from Jan 25, 2025 and beyond.

New PALISI Interest Group: PALISI Hearts

We are thrilled to have introduced our Cardiovascular Disease SIG, hereafter known as PALISI Hearts, at the PALISI main meeting in Boston. Our vision is to develop and foster a multi-disciplinary research collaborative whose mission is to study the manifestations of cardiovascular disease in critically ill children and evaluate the impact of critical illness in children with congenital and acquired heart disease.

Thank you all for being receptive to this new SIG and for the incredible support we have garnered thus far. There has been an outpouring of enthusiasm and interest since our introduction, and we are very excited to keep the momentum going.

As we move forward, it is imperative that we receive your input as critical care experts to help inform the development and ensure success of our group. If you have not yet done so, please take a moment to provide feedback. It should only take a few minutes to fill out our REDCap via the QR code below. If you have any questions or would like to reach us directly, please e-mail us at PALISIHearts@gmail.com

Many thanks,

Dalia Bashir, Liz Pace, Victoria Habet, Kevin Hummel

Opportunity: Trauma & Critical Illness Interest Group

The Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) is a federally funded, multi-institutional network for research in pediatric emergency medicine and, like PALISI, has led numerous impactful and high profile studies.  With the most recent round of PECARN infrastructure funding, a new Trauma & Critical Illness Interest Group was established to foster increased research for the subset of sickest children treated in emergency settings.  An important goal of this group is to enhance collaborations across PEM and PCCM to address knowledge gaps shared in the ED and PICU.

We invite all PALISI members to participate in this group, especially if you have ideas or suggestions about research that might benefit from ED-PICU collaboration across study sites.  The goal is an open forum to discuss new ideas investigators want to bring forward, receive feedback about a current project, brainstorm, etc.  The next meeting will be held virtually on 11/30 2:00-3:00 pm EST with virtual meetings every other month.

All are welcome to join!  If you would like to be on the listserv and receive meeting invitations, please complete this brief survey:  Trauma & Critical Illness Interest Group Sign Up Link . https://redcap.nchri.org/surveys/?s=AJKDCA8CW4MEYE98
