Final Spring 2026 Clinical Research Course Save the Date
Attention investigators! Are you interested in developing your research skills with personalized training sessions from leading scientists in the field of pediatric critical care? If so, please join us for PALISI’s Clinical Research Course! Check-in and welcome reception will be on the evening of Tuesday March 3, and the course will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2025, from 8:00am - 5:30pm. This intensive workshop is designed to expose junior investigators to key components of a research career and build connections in the PALISI community. Topics will include strategies for developing your research program, cultivating collaborations, reviewing specific aims, strategies for your professional success and more!
Â
You can register for one of two tracks. You will be asked to choose your track upon registration, and you will spend roughly half of the day within your track. The tracks are:
Â
·  Collaborative Clinician-Researcher – developed for those interested in roles such as collaborative investigator, site PI, or clinical research coordinator with a scholarly focus on conducting clinical research locally or leading quality improvement programs.
· Independent Clinician-Scientist* - developed for those seeking to lead independently funded research programs.
*If you register for the Independent Clinician-Scientist track, you must submit a Specific Aims page for review during the Specific Aims Workshop. If you are interested but do not feel prepared to submit this sample work, please do not hesitate to reach out to the course directors for guidance. Specific Aims will be requested in advance of the meeting and all late registrants will be placed in the Collaborative Clinician-Researcher track. Â
Attendees of the ICS track will be asked to submit their spec aims pages 2 weeks prior to the meeting as we had done in the fall; thus, the deadline for SA submissions would be February 18th, 2026, at 5pm EST.Â
We will close registration for the ICS track on February 25th at 5pm EST
Submission will be sent directly to Aline and I; thereafter, we will review them all, allocate them to faculty who will review prior to in-person feedback session, and we will choose 2 presenters for the early investigator showcase.Â
Please note that repeat course participation is encouraged, especially if you've participated in the past and now have better defined specific aims that you would like to have reviewed!
Please save the date - registration will open soon! See you in Salt Lake City!

Survey Related to the Current Utilization and Attitudes Related to Use of Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist (NAVA) in Pediatric Critical Care Units.Â
This survey specifically addresses the use of invasive NAVA (IMV-NAVA) and does not include questions about non-invasive NAVA. If you do not have experience with IMV-NAVA, you will be directed to questions about barriers to its use and research-related questions. Please note that this survey is intended only for practicing pediatric critical care attendings. Participation is voluntary—you may choose not to participate or skip any question at any time. This survey is anonymous, should take <10 minutes to complete, and if you agree to continue with this survey, you will be asked a series of questions described below:Â
The survey consists of two sections:
Questions about your institution, your specific training, and general experience with IMV- NAVA;
Questions regarding your personal experience, attitudes, and perspectives on IMV-NAVA.
Medical directors will have a different set of questions in addition to the two sections above that involve questions about the use of IMV-NAVA at your specific institution.Â
Your participation is greatly appreciated. The information you provide will help us better understand NAVA use in the pediatric population and inform future research projects. By beginning this survey, you are confirming you have read and agree with the above and consent to participate in this survey.Â
In addition, if you would like to participate in a focus group about NAVA for future research please click on the separate link in the survey to provide your e-mail.Â
If you have further questions or comments, please feel free to contact me at mkabara@med.umich.edu.
