Viral INfections in the Young Lung (VINYL) RFA OPEN!

As an additional follow up to Dr. Tamburro’s presentation, he wanted our membership to be aware that the VINYL (Viral INfections in the Young Lung) RFAs were published on Friday (See below). The expiration date (due date) is November 11, 2025 (Veterans’ Day so applications may due November 10, 2025) which is a fairly tight turnaround. RFA-HL-26-006: Viral INfections in the Young Lung- The VINYL Clinical Consortium (UG3/UH3 Clinical Trial Optional)The VINYL Consortium aims to create and follow a large, deeply characterized cohort of young children (ages 0–2), including those born preterm, who are hospitalized with viral lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) such as bronchiolitis, pneumonia, and PARDS. By collecting common data and biospecimens across sites and following participants longitudinally—including controls—the program seeks to uncover the diverse clinical presentations, underlying biology, and long-term lung outcomes of early viral infections. The consortium will also conduct mechanistic studies and make data and samples broadly available, advancing understanding of how early viral illness impacts respiratory health, neurocognitive development, and sleep into preschool age.View the full NOFO

RFA-HL-26-008: Viral INfections in the Young Lung- The VINYL Clinical Consortium- Data Analytics and Coordinating Center (DACC)(U24 Clinical Trial Optional)The VINYL Consortium’s Data and Analytics Coordinating Center (DACC) will lead the management, harmonization, and sharing of comprehensive clinical, imaging, and biospecimen data from a large, deeply phenotyped cohort of hospitalized young children with viral lower respiratory tract infections. By supporting multi-site cohort enrollment, facilitating data integration, and ensuring broad, timely data access, the DACC will accelerate research into the mechanisms, severity, and long-term outcomes of early viral respiratory infections in childhood.View the full NOFO
