Fall 2025 Clinical Research Course – Register Now!

Attention senior fellows, junior faculty and novice researchers - are you interested in developing your research skills from leading scientists in the field of pediatric critical care? Join us for PALISI’s Clinical Research Course on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 8:00am - 5:30pm. This one-day intensive workshop is designed to expose junior investigators to key components of a research career and build connections in the PALISI community. Topics will include building connections, developing your research program, cultivating collaborations, reviewing specific aims, discussing strategies for your professional success, and more!

This year participants will register for one of two tracks. You will be asked to choose your track upon registration, and you will spend roughly half of the day within your track.

  • Collaborative Clinician-Researcher - for those interested in roles such as collaborative investigator or site PI with a local clinical research or quality improvement scholarly focus.

  • Independent Clinician-Scientist* - for those aiming to lead independently funded research programs.

*If you register for the Independent Clinician-Scientist track, you must submit a Specific Aims page for review during the Specific Aims Workshop. If you are interested but do not feel prepared to submit this sample work, please don't hesitate to reach out to the course directors for guidance. Specific Aims will be requested in advance of the meeting and all late registrants will be placed in the Collaborative Clinician-Researcher track.

Please note that repeat course participation is encouraged, especially if you've participated in the past and now have better defined specific aims that you would like to review!

Inaugural PALISI “Datathon” To Be Held Thurs Sept 11

On behalf of the PEDAL, NEAR4Kids, and BACON leadership, we'd like to invite you to participate in a PALISI "Datathon" event to occur immediately following conclusion of the PALISI main meeting in Montreal on Thursday, September 11th from 11am - 3pm (Lunch is provided - CME application pending!). In the session, we will match PALISI members with members from NEAR4Kids/BACON/PEDAL to work together on data analysis for a project related to NEAR4Kids or BACON, helping to expose individuals to additional analytic/coding techniques, increase collaboration across subgroups, and potentially result in publications. You can reference the data dictionaries for the NEAR4Kids and BACON data sets here.

If this sounds interesting and you have a research project in mind using NEAR4Kids or BACON data with methods that might be more nuanced than typical database studies (e.g., causal inference modeling), please send an email to PEDAL@palisi.org with an overview of your question and any potential collaborators. If you don't have a specific question but are interested in participating, please let us know that as well. We will review project ideas, make selections, and connect interested individuals in advance of the meeting. We look forward to seeing everyone at this first PALISI Datathon event! Cheers, The PEDAL, NEAR4Kids, and BACON subgroups
